I saw this book on IG as a horror retelling of the little mermaid. Based on that, I am super disappointed. I would have loved her to go into more about her as a mermaid, maybe dragged someone into the sea etc. Whilst I get the vibe they were going for, it was just awkward language that didn't work for me and therefore I found it kind of boring

Craziest/goriest dark folklore expansion (moreso than a retelling) I’ve ever read. Yes, I enjoyed it and will probably eventually reread it, since I feel like there was only so much I could take in this initial time. I also loved the prose here.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had read it. Not because of the narrator but because of the wording.
The author used words that are not typically heard and I felt like I needed a thesaurus to understand at times.
