Until the middle it was good and then boring/annoying for me.

Hot ass. The absolute worst thing a smutty book should be is boring and un-sexy. Spent an absurd amount of time trying to make the audience care for the characters by developing a less-than-mediocre plot and not nearly enough on said characters getting freaky

This was one of the "booktok" books that I was debating on reading since I saw mixed reviews of people either haring or loving it. Finally decided to give it a read after my friend told me that this was the series that had brought her love for reading back (she was on a long years worth hiatus from reading). I figured, I'd give it a try and I'm glad to say I'm on the side of those who love this book! Hoping the same goes well for me with the rest of this series.

i think this book was written for people who never had a wattpad phase.
there are so many reasons this book didn’t work for me but i think it can mainly be boiled down to the character work. ava and alex are supposed to be all of these things and possess all of these traits but i feel that we are never really shown these aspects of their personalities, only told. they (ava and alex) at times read as caricatures or the embodiments of tropes instead of actual people. they, along with every side character, fell flat as a result. the lack of depth in the side characters was a particular annoyance of mine. we are told that alex and josh are like brothers, we are told that ava and her friends are very close knit, but when do we ever actually see this? we hardly ever see them interact, and when they are around, they just serve as placeholders or means to an end, not as characters in their own right.
and let’s not even talk about the third act conflict. i don’t even want to go there. (alex is Insufferable™️)
overall, this just wasn’t the book for me. my critical reading brain just couldn’t be turned off and i wasn’t able to suspend my disbelief when necessary.

I didn’t really know what to expect. I just saw everyone recommending it. The first part I just thought it was a fun smutty story. And then the second half of the book went in a totally different direction making it more interesting. I wasn’t into the “you’re mine and only mine” and calling her “a beautiful whore” it’s not my thing. That’s why it got 3 stars.

This book was a lot to digest so much happens I loved it.
We have so many tropes in this book grumpy sunshine, brothers bestfriend, nightmare trope, comfort trope i cant.
I've been in a romance mood lately and i cant wait to engulf the rest of this series!
10/10 would recommend the writing wasn't necessary my favorite but i loved the dual pov and short chapters
