Emotional, moving and Michael Morpurgo at his finest ♥ ♥

Great read. Perfectly written and in such an emotive away. Loved reading about a different aspect of the war from the vantage point of a child.

Highly recommended

Despite being written for children, Waiting for Anya has a certain depth that isn’t always there in WWII books. I particularly liked the main character’s point of view of the occupation, the realisation that not every single Nazi was a baby-murdering monster, his relationship with Widow Horcada, and how he’s lead to help her.

As we follow Jo for a few years we see him grow into a much more confident, serious, and brave teenager. Reading the occupation of a little village through a child/preteen’s perspective is terribly interesting. The author captured perfectly the way the children’s innocence is mixed up with the brutality of the war.

Michael Morpurgo you've done it again, you have created another masterpiece. He never ceases to amaze me and after hearing him speak multiple times, I just think he is an amazing person. Waiting for Anya is one of my favourite books by him, the story is so moving and fantastic. I love the way Morpurgo writes as he builds tension and anticipation throughout the whole novel.

The fact that Jo, a French boy could get along with a German Nazi and a Jewish man just showed us that even in all the fighting, friend could be made and their is hope in the unlikeliest of places. It also showed how cruel and unkind humans can be. The way Morpurgo writes really makes you think and feel in all the characters shoes and showed how they coped with different life problems.

This book will touch your heart and definitely make you think, a must read!

Not: Kitap filme de uyarlanıyor. Çekimler bitti bildiğim kadarıyla ve oyuncu kadrosu harika. (Noah Schnapp, Jean Reno, Anjelica Huston, Thomas Kretschmann...) Dilerim Türkiye’de de gösterime girer.

My year 4 teacher, Miss Wilson, got me this book at the end of the year and I remember it being really impactful. On re-reading, it didn't have quite the same effect but maybe that's because it's a children's book and I already knew the ending. The pace is really my only issue as I felt like in the middle section nothing really happened but, other than that, it's still a lovely children's book about humanity and hope.
