This was funny in that very British humour way, although I felt lost in some parts (like I usually do with British comedy). A short, light hearted read.

I read this a long time ago and I adored it. Although it's one of Jenny's earlier books I didn't read it until after some of her newer ones and I loved it. I loved reading her earlier writing, it's as good as her newer books.

I love the idea of this book, a bit of cheeky revenge of friends and rivals.

There are some really funny moments and I love reading about a wedding in whatever form it comes.

Really enjoyed this. Very 90s though. Probably not everyone’s cup of tea. Great spikey characters. Quite different to the anodyne “nice” heroines you usually get. Mel was great, putting up with her friends but following her path as you do. Loved fran and her “I’m a lioness”. Reminded me of being 20 and getting off with all the wrong guys. We all have “friends” from childhood/college and it’s not all that clear why you’re all still friends. Somehow the longevity of the relationship is its own value. Mind you, the plot did fall apart a bit towards the end. Still enjoyable though, esp for its genre.

"Why can't everyone just be nice and end up with nice people?" Mel

Jacintha! Really? My recent read "Zero Days" had a Jacintha. I'd never heard / read this name, now twice!

This was probably closer to 4.5 stars. The first third or so of this book I did not like - the main character was very shallow and continually made very stupid decisions. However, around the half way point the character development really kicked in and you could see the light bulbs going off in the main character's brain about the choices she was making and then the story became very good. There were a few unexpected turns in the story and it had a fantastic ending.

The main character of this book, Mel, was such a bad person. She is incredibly selfish, not as bad as the villain on the book, but still too selfish to be likable. I was almost happy when the bad things happened to her because she deserved it.
There were many times this week that I decided to listen to podcasts instead of read this book cause I didn’t feel like dealing with Mel and her many problems.
The author makes it seem like 1 thing is gonna happen the whole book and then out of no where at the end she does something else. It’s so dumb. But there were the occasional good parts

This is the debut novel for this author, but was the 2nd one of hers that I read. The 1st one I read occurred later in her career and I enjoyed it so much I decided to go back and read more.

I did not enjoy this book nearly as much. I found Melanie to be extremely unlikable for the first 2/3rds of the book. Also, maybe because I am American and not British, but I didn't find it nearly as "hilarious" as the book jacket said.

I am going to toss this off as newbie nuances since I know I enjoyed her later novel and I will try again as I think she grows into the author I enjoy.
