This was a really enjoyable duology. Lots of action, adventure, lore, and a journey to go on. Certainly underrated in my opinion.

Book 2 was just as great as the first 1. What I like about this is our characters communicate even when their doubts and fears are at the forefront.

Content Warning: violence

This is the conclusion to the Mistlands duology and it picks up where it left off in book one. Kiara and Jude are separated but they find their way back together.

I always thought the concept for the book was interesting, there is no daylight in this world of the Mistlands but there is a prophecy and now they know Kiara and Jude is a part of it. Jude goes through some tough moments in this book but Kiara does her best to go find him and that’s an adventure in itself. I liked Kiara’s relationship with her best friend Jake. I thought their friendship was fun. There is a lot of action in the second half of this book because Kiara, Jude and their group need to complete a dangerous quest.

The romance is nice, they finally admit what they want from each other but it was always insta-love from book one. They even have a bit of a little spicy moment.

Final Thoughts:

I found this story to move quickly with lots of action, and adventure. Plus it has the romance even though it was kind of insta-lovey in book one and the found family was nice. I think this was a great conclusion to the duology.

Meh. It was fine. Not great. At times it was either convoluted, or too convenient, or dragged on because it was too struggle bus, oof.
The only character I mildly liked and related to... died

I was not attached to any character particularly, even the hidden one. In fact, most of them were either unlikable or annoying. Yes, even the MCs.
The plot was... just all over the place at times. Also I find it a little ironic
that Jude and Kiara fight so hard to bring the day back and then can never see each other during it 😂😂😂 literally made me cackle at the end.

4.5 stars.

An action packed conclusion to the duology.

It suffers a little from allowing the characters to cope too easily with dire circumstances IMO at times. The trials and tribulations sometimes feel too easily overcome. The characters deal with ramifications a little too easily. In a way, this is kind of a refreshing change of pace. And generally Jude is a little too worshipful about Ki, making her character a little too GB/MS sometimes. There are a few times where Ki does things that seem harsh or mean, which i didn't like. But, in the end, things work out in satisfying ways. (Trying to keep this review vague.)

Granted, I'm easily entertained.

Still, the action was constant, and the book never lulled. We meet some new characters, a few old ones are back, there are challenging quests and puzzles and in general, for a modern Romantasy(maybe? to me it is, but i may be wrong?) it's one of the better I've read.

This book left me satisfied by the journey. The end is a little puzzling, I'm a little confused about the long term effects of what is decided, but I'm choosing the happiest outcome, and sticking with it. Will definitely read again!

I just hated it so much, it had so much potential in my opinion but I just couldn’t do it. I really really tried to like it but the romantic part between Kiara and the commander was just off and on for me. I hated the pace of the book and how some parts got more attention than others. For me this was a DNF, I tried to force myself to read it and finish it afyer the first book but it just wasn’t for me.

3.5/5⭐️

“We weren’t made for easy, commander.”

“I’d happily take her anger. I’d take anything she’d give me, like the beggar I’d become.”

“I began to fall in love the first time you said my name. And I wish to never land.”

“My body could be reduced to ash, yet I’d still be drawn to her. Whatever prices remained of me, lifting on the winds, demanding to circle her orbit.”

“You have years of ruining me to do yet.”

I really wish I had read this closer to then I read the first one because I think it would be rated a tad higher. However, it was still really enjoyable. I don’t necessarily have any irks or complaints about this book but I don’t have anything to rave about either. The banter and confessions of love are top tier but aside from that I had a good time just not an amazing time, ya know?
