It was okayish. I love the pov of cats & the way they differ from the ladies. But sometimes it feels like the author doesn't know about the ladies or their feelings. I like the aspect of the dog "Jon" and how cats & dogs communicate with each other.

It's a weird book. But I like it weird.

A really heartwarming story about four different people and the cats of their lives. It follows first a girl and her communication struggles, then another's struggle to find work with passion, then Aoi and her guilt, and finally, an old lady looking for a new purpose. It tells these stories of life and different phases so gracefully and sweetly, giving each character a real sense of greatness. The parallel stories and cats that all knew each other made it feel very connected. The pieces that would change from character to character and 1st to 3rd person, as well as the number of characters, made it feel slightly disjointed though.

Very charming view on our world. I loved interconnectedness of the four stories and the communication between cats and their owners.

She and Her Cat is definitely soft Japanese fiction. A light, wistful narrative of cats and their owners in a neighborhood in Japan. The narration alternates between characters and cats telling largely sweet tales. But that doesn't mean that the characters don't face the challenges of daily life (loneliness, self doubt, rejection, guilt, etc.). In each story, there is a sweet balance between the cats and their human counterparts. The humans are saving the cats from the peril of their existence and the cats are saving the humans from theirs. Overall, nice, sweet book to soak up. 3.25 Stars.
