i don't know what about these japanese literature about combined cats and mundanity hits so hard. this book was a breeze to read, light and easy, but somehow made me cry several times.

I first read the manga and was kind of disappointed by it. One of the reasons I didn't like it was because I felt the pacing was just way too fast and the theme of mental health was barely explored. The book does fix most of that and the different stories of the cats and their struggeling owners were all equally interesting. The exploration of depression, anxiety and loneliness still does stay shallow but at least it could be considered "dealt with". The story is easy and fast to get through, while also giving you some emotional beats, but fails to have a real impact. I'd recommend it, if you’re looking for a quick read with cute cats.

Through their eyes, we gain insight into how they perceive the seemingly ordinary world and navigate their surroundings. It made reflect on the cats I encounter in my own daily life, making me curious about what's going on in their head.
I hope there were more depth in the characterization of some of the characters. While the overall story is engaging, certain characters felt underdeveloped and could have benefited from further exploration. Additionally, the ending didn't fully convince me as it felt somewhat forced and rushed.
Nevertheless, She and Her Cat is a light and enjoyable read, perfect for combating a reading slump or keeping you entertained during long hours of travel. It strikes a balance between coziness and peculiarity, making it a pleasant choice for relaxation and escapism.
