“I’m not going to die. I’m going to become eternity.”

“Eternity?”

“If I die here, then both of you, and Shino, would know that I was dead. But if you don’t see me die, then nobody will know for sure whether I’m dead or not.”

“Is that what eternity is?”

“Yup.”

Short and sweet

Just as in "Weasel in the attic," these four stories have cats in common, who then share their "human" references. Nothing particularly memorable, but perhaps as manga it works better.

Cosí come in "Weasel in the attic", questi quattro racconti hanno in comune i gatti, che poi hanno in comune le loro "umane" di riferimento. Niente di particolarmente indimenticabile, forse peró come manga funziona meglio.
emotional reflective medium-paced

A heartfelt and quirky love letter to the human and cat relationship, these interconnected short stories explore shifting POVs between four cats and the women who care for them.

Said POV shifts between human and cat come abruptly (some after just a few sentences), so even though there is a cat icon that separates them, you still have to recalibrate your brain to who is speaking. (More than once, I thought a cat was talking about painting or friends from fourth grade.)

There is also a magical realism element woven in, because while the cats do not speak, they have a very strong understanding of human objects and structures in their POVs.

All in all, this is a swift read that is a bit clumsy in its execution, but stumbles with its whole heart.

I liked the first part and the end part, and Cookie and Aoi’s part is okay. It’s super weird that Chobi calls his owner his girlfriend though.
lighthearted relaxing

I really wanted to love this, and there were definitely some charming aspects that hit me in the feels as a cat mom myself... but to me the translation was really clunky when it came to the narrative, story structure and the human's dialogue. It felt awkward to read-- childish even-- and I felt super disconnected from the characters. I liked that all of the characters' short stories had overlapping elements, with the cats connecting many of them together in ways they weren't aware of. Despite the interconnected story line, it's definitely more slice-of-life without a true underlying plot. The moments that were clearly written to be profound fell flat and read like word salad.
