Literary Cozy Mystery in which a British MA Holmes-themed bookshop and tea room owner who's visiting England uses her deductive mind to solve her ex-husband's murder and a book's theft.
5/5 stars: This is the tenth entry in Delany's Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery series, which is a Literary Cozy Mystery and features the British owner of the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium and co-owner of Mrs Hudson’s Tea Room in Massachusetts who has traveled to England for her sister's wedding finds herself using her deductive mind to investigate her ex-husband's murder and a rare book's theft. As she and her best friend follow his trail, she realizes his mystery is anything but elementary and she'll have to work fast to solve the case before her time in London–or in life–is over. With plenty of twists and turns, Delany has masterfully crafted a mystery that deftly balances the suspects, clues and red herrings and will leave you pondering the whodunit until the final reveal. Heartfelt and humorous, Delany's writing and character work are stellar; the characters are well-rounded and complex while remaining incredibly likable. It's a joy to catch up with Gemma, her friends and family in London and follow the hi-jinks for uncle, employees and pets get up to back home. I especially get a kick out the very “irregular” Donald, Gemma's quirky Holmes super fan friend. Additionally, it's great to see Gemma's relationship with her detective boyfriend, Ryan continue. Although I miss Gemma's hilarious hate/hate relationship with store cat, Moriarty, there's a great dog in this book, Horace, her father's schnauzer. While you could read this as a stand-alone, you'll gain so much more by reading the series from the beginning; so be sure to pick up book one, [b:Elementary, She Read|31213577|Elementary, She Read (A Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery, #1)|Vicki Delany|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1470695216l/31213577._SX50_.jpg|51868106]. I simply adore this series, Delany's captured the essence of Holmes and sprinkles the book with tons of Holmsian Easter eggs. Highly recommend!

Gemma and friends travel to England for sister Pippa’s wedding to rare book dealer Grant who moved to England after meeting and falling for Pippa during her visit to West London . Suffering from jet lag and leaving to rest, the last person that Gemma expected to encounter was her ex-husband, Paul. An ex-husband that Ryan doesn’t yet know about.
Jayne and Donald always have Gemma’s back and this time is no different as they travel through Gemma’s old stomping grounds looking for answers to the death of Paul. Donald even gets a chance to use his brolly again and Ryan gets a punch or two in himself.
We are treated to more about Gemma’s past before she moved to America. As well as the relationship between Gemma and Pippa.
The subplot felt a bit forced. I get why it was included but still a bit forced.
I liked that some characters from their past adventure in England make an appearance. I always enjoy Gemma’s family, this time is no exception.
I enjoyed the investigation, Gemma’s reminiscence and all the characters. I think it made Gemma more human. I have liked her through the series but in some cases she came across cold. We learn that she, like the rest of us can be swept away and make unwise decisions.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #CrookedLaneBooks for the opportunity to do an early read and share my thoughts on the story.
Happy Reading!

Not knowing this was the tenth book in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery series, I read this novel as a standalone without any prior knowledge. I did not have the feeling I was missing any information. Sure, the connections between the main cast had been established in earlier books, but Delany gave background information where necessary and let the story unfurl otherwise.
A cosy-ish mystery, set in London, UK, with a cast of characters from both sides of the Atlantic. This leads to a few vocabulary and cultural explanations that I enjoyed very much, especially the remarks about tea.
Will I go back and read the other books in the series? Sure, I am intrigued by the things that have been mentioned (in a teaser kind of way, not spoilers).

The first ever book by Vicki Delany that I couldnt finish. It was way too long, way too many side stories and just so boring

I really like this series, and this book is no exception. This one is set in London with Gemma and friends visiting for Pippa's wedding. Pippa is one of my favorite side characters and I love the connection between her and Mycroft Holmes. The mystery was intriguing with many interesting red herrings and forays into Pippa's top secret government job. All in all, a really fun read!
