1) Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

2) Genre: Fantasy

3) Synopsis: After a living, a life without magic Richard is thrown into a magical world where he is given magical responsibilities. Not only does he have new responsibilities but it is up to him to save the world from an evil magician.

4) Feelings: I love this book and series. Richard is an awesome character and the romantic tension between Richard and Kahlan is wonderful. This book has everything you could want. Magic, Dragons, Wizards, Witches, and Love.

5) Final recommendation: Read it. Read it now. If I could recommend any book this would be one of the first ones I would recommend.

I don’t understand how this series became such a big deal. I tried reading it years ago and didn’t like it. People kept going on about how it was one of the best fantasy series ever and so I decided to give it another shot. Unfortunately, my original opinion remains unchanged.

Originally read back in 2000. Very different than I remembered, and filled with many flaws that my 17-year-old self didn't pick up on in her enthusiasm for the experience. Although not as well told as I remember, the story is still beautiful because the core concepts of it are true. In my opinion, all flaws are worth it if it reveals any inch of truth. This book offers many. And so I love it.

Best book of the series. Starts out with Richard as a woods guide and then he learns who he is and his destiny. Through it all he is able to keep his core values throughout all the changes in the rest of his life, which is what I love about this book.
