A good yarn, but the plot was somewhat weak in parts. The writing style is a bit naive and simplistic, but the story got told and I enjoyed it, despite the lengthy sadomasochism scenes and the spattering of paedophilia....
It's an ok read. The characters are a bit one dimensional, the plot a bit forced in places. And the author has a bit of bondage fetish, but I've read worse.

This was so bad.
The writing was bad.
The plot was bad.
The characters are bad.
The worldbuilding was bad.
The dialogue was bad.
Every aspect of this book was bad (or maybe mediocre at best)
But you know what?
Up until like 75% I was actually enjoying it in a "so bad it's good" way.
But then the BDSM torture/smut happened.
And then multiple SA scenes and a graphic r*pe scene happened.
And then I was completely over it. It went from so bad it's good to just fucking terrible.
This book is incredibly sexist, homophobic, and racist (towards Indigenous people in particular). Yet, somehow that doesn't even cover all of its issues. SOMEHOW that's just the tip of the ice berg.
The story, even if you somehow manage to ignore how awful and problematic it is, is also super cliche and filled with characters and plotlines stolen from better stories (Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time to name a few). There's literally a sad creature that leads Richard and Kahlan through a forest and into a trap, and it's named SAMUEL. Like Jesus Christ, the author wasn't even creative enough to pick a name that didn't sound like Smeagol.
(Also for some reason the author hates vegetarians???? What the fuck was that about?)

While not as good as it was when I was younger (previously gave it 4 stars), it isn't as bad as all the hate makes it out to be. If you remove everything you know about the author himself, the story itself...not terrible.
Not gonna lie, one of my favorite parts about this book is the love story. Cheesy as it is, you can't make me hate it. :P

I enjoyed this book. It had better twists and tuns than the TV show. It was quite long though. And I felt like some parts unnecessarily dragged on too long. Other than that though it was really good.
I like the characters and it does have an interesting plot, but I could not get over the terrible writing to keep reading the series. I finished this book, but will probably not pick up the next one in the series.
This book was really good. I even intend to read the sequels later.
I am glad I finally read the book that gave me one of my favorite Saturday guilty pleasures back in the the day "The Legend of the Seeker".
Having the show as a foundation made this book better even though things were a little different. Richard was definitely stronger in personality in the book and Kahlan was weaker in personality in the book. Zedd was himself and Darken Rahl was nastier in the book.
A lot happened in this book but it was very interesting. I watch the show again to see if the book enhanced my enjoyment

I loved this book, the main character is so layered. Also, that guy got nerves. Very fun read, exept the brutal parts that will keep you up. It got all god high-fantasy parts but also insanely realistic things.
