What a wonderful little gem - particularly for Spanish speakers/readers. This book is brimming with GGM's best: a colourful and deep understanding of the *Colonised-Latin-America vibes*, historically rich world building and sincere yet completely unreal characters, (crazy forms of) love, pain, magic and hate... all while just writing an overall incredibly creative and fun (to read!) story.
Moderate: Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Adult/minor relationship, Animal death, Emotional abuse, Self harm, Slavery, Excrement, Vomit, Medical content, Religious bigotry, and Medical trauma

This is exactly what it seems, a “love story” between a twelve-year-old girl and a thirty-six-year-old, educated priest who abuses his power. WTF? He was clearly a gifted writer, which is why I gave this the benefit of the doubt, but I should have listened to my gut. I gave it one star, just in case this was a badly conceived and clumsy attempt at show don’t tell, because I felt all the disgust and rage, but the last paragraph (otherwise I would have DNF’d it) left me wanting to throw the book across the room.
