You know it's not a good sign when you feel relieved at finishing a book. 

My immediate thought when I finished reading was: I'm never reading novels in verse again. This was might third try at it, and I've never liked my experience. Still, I wanted to give it a shot, because one of my friends recommended it to me, and the premise of lesbian vampires sounded pretty cool. 

I just had a conversation with said friend about this book, and it made me realise that this book has a lot of wasted potential. Grehan mainly uses vampires as a device to explore desire and identity, arguably unsuccesfully, while there could have been much more history and drama involved. I would have been ten times more interested in this book if we got more backstory, more worldbuilding, more explanation of how this type of vampire works. Also, all of the characters in this book could have been given so much more depth. 

That I didn't like the style of verse in this book is one thing, and that's very personal, but the lack of depth of the story is undeniable, and frankly reads as lazy writing. 

That's not to say that you're wrong if you liked this, of course. You do you. But it was definitely not for me.
