Another classic

Salvatore does it again with another classic Drizzt novel. Kept me very entertained and has yet to become redundant. Will definitely be continuing the series

R.A. Salvatore has redeemed himself, and the Legacy of the Drow, with this installment of the dark elf's exploits. He saved the series from being a convoluted, overly busy and overcast mess with a simple story that touches on all the roots of the magnificence of the previous series and simultaneously giving us a new story with just the right amount of new characters and action sequences. This book is really very different from the other three, and for all the right reasons. It focuses way more on Drizzt, the main character, and not on the others, who, unlike Martin, Salvatore fails to make interesting. It builds on previously mentioned and developed characters and plot lines, tying them in with the new so that the whole series of Dark Elf novels seems like one unending story. I like that, and this book makes it happen. Very little of what happened in the other three Legacy books comes in to play here, and my conclusion is that Salvatore would have made this series even better by condensing the four novels into three. Nothing would have been displaced, not in the least. Drizzt's character development is magnificent; he is ever-growing, and still, even at the end of ten books, isn't where he wants to be. His humility is very easy to transpose into real-life themes, which elevates marketed tie-in novels rise to the status of great literature. I proceed on to Paths with great excitement, my friends, because Salvatore is back.

I think that Passage to Dawn managed to better emphasize on the action and the tension of the classic fantasy-hack-and-slash novels. A lovely read, with a surprising ending, and the companions are together again, starting a new quest at the end of it...
