TW: Assault , Rape attempt
I picked this book up and ignored reviews because I actually don't like to read reviews before books. Overall I wanted to say that unfortunately, I don't particularly like the main love interest, and the pacing towards the end is a bit stilted to say the least. However I did find the writing style enjoyable.
Now I just want to ask why the author decided that Carmichael had to become an ass and misogynist towards the end of the book so we would root for Tom, there were possibly better ways for Vicky to reject Carmichael other than him suddenly becoming all "women belong in the kitchen" in chapter 25/32. And I am a bit salty about this because I did like him better than Tom because he did treat Vicky better than Tom. Other than that I don't know why there's an attempted rape scene it just felt empty and also without reason, Dain could have simply just tried to kill Vicky and it would have made more sense. Also I get that Vicky emulates her favourite heroines or at least tries to but damn we didn't need her talking about it every other chapter. Also Susie was there for 0 reason.
Overall it's a book to pass the time with during quarantine, and certainly not an awful debut novel, even though certain plot points and pacing issues could be fixed, as the start of the book felt quite slow.

I chose this to be my first book of 2021 because it sounded fun and lighthearted and THAT is how I wanted to start out this year. It was those things! But it was also intense and tackled serious things as well.
(And to be honest I have this issue where I must read everything that talks about pride and prejudice)
