It was cute! As of right now, I don’t think I’ll revisit this book. It was a nice, but not a standout read. When I picked it up, I saw that it was an “Austentacious romance.” I understood that to mean that it was influenced by Jane Austen and would probably be a witty, light-hearted romance with light angst and a happy ending. I would say that’s mostly the case, (albeit with more angst), but the Jane Austen references were fairly excessive. Every single chapter contains a Jane Austen quote at the beginning, and references throughout. The characters discuss Jane Austen’s novels at length, too. It’s too much.
I’ll add more thoughts later if I have the energy.

Fun escape for lovers of Austen who don’t want anything challenging. Great pallet cleanser after reading heavier, darker fiction. Dark mystery tied throughout that drives the plot, but still gives room to explore characters and leave questions for the readers.
Graphic: Domestic abuse and Kidnapping
