It was fine. I suspect I'll want the other two books in the series before I actually can give this a fair assessment, so I probably will end up coming back to revise this later.
Oof, what a fun book. Firstly, I’m willing to read anything N.K. Jemisin writes and that hasn’t been a mistake so far. She is a genius. The City We Became is about New York City and its soul, and how five New Yorkers have to come together to save its soul. The catch? These five New Yorkers all ARE a little of New York’s soul. I don’t even want to say too much about the plot in case I give anything away. But, I will say, it is amazing. The characters have depth and texture, just like the city. If you feel some type of way when you’re in a big, loud, crowded and old city like I do, definitely read this.
It took a while to get into it but then I couldn't put it down. Great story that captures the essence of The City

Loved it. Imaginative, fast-paced, heartfelt, great prose, and the audiobook is astoundingly good.
Had to stop reading when RBG died cause the book was cutting too close to home.
VERY of the moment. Loved the diversity of characters - glad to see a fantasy book that wasn't just "white men, white men, straight love interest, white men" :)

This is a Modern Mrs. Darcy Summer Reading Guide choice. Had I just read the description, or listened to others who hav read Jesmin’s S I fi trilogy ( Most of whom prefer the trilogy to this one ), I probably would not have chosen it, but Anne Vogel’s description of the book was intriguing, and the library got it to me sooner than expected. Yay for Libro!
This book is a highly visual book. I will be shocked if it doesn’t get made I to an action movie. It is begging for the superhero treatment. Which for me would not normally bode well, but I have to say, I think the book works. And I would see that flick.

Not as obsessed with this as I am everything else I've read by Jemisin, maybe because it's set in the real world, maybe because the message is a little heavy-handed, maybe because it's not as mysterious. Still loved it though.
