The City We Became is storytelling near its best. I enjoyed the concepts applied in the book, as well as their applications.

If you have enjoyed Jemisin's other novels I believe you will enjoy The City We Became. Check it out.

A truly unique and compelling concept. Really enjoyed the (sometimes heavyhanded) messaging around the forces that kill cultures in cities and how they are both insidious and overt, but I found myself bored throughout. I wonder if knowing more about NYC would help me properly appreciate the detail in each of the characters/boroughs? Or maybe it just wasn’t the book for me. Audio production is so good though - highly recommend.
