This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I really struggled to get through it. I thought the concept was so interesting but there were too many unnamed characters in the beginning that it starts off very confusing. The pacing was slow, and even when the storyline picked up slightly in the middle, the magical creatures & enemy’s system still felt undefined and confusing. Overall just didn’t hold my interest at all and had to force myself to finish it.

i realllllyyyyy loved this book!!! the amount of care, research, passion, etc that went into it is abundantly clear through every page. so entertaining and i cried a lot

My relationship to NYC is complicated but this actually made me nostalgic for it. And it's an interesting concept over all! Maybe not as accessible to people who have never lived there but I recommend it to people who do!
