My biggest issue truly was just that the chapters are SO LONG. It is not a book you can “just one more chapter” much. The plot was a little complicated at first, but if you have read other work by N.K. Jemisin before it makes it easier. Overall a very fun time, also made me cry at one point. A LOT of character in the writing and you can tell a lot of thought and love was put into it. Only taking .75 points off for pacing.

Solid book, just very long chapters and a kind of confusing ending - guess I will see where it goes in book 2

Listened to the audiobook. Really well performed, and a great, creative concept for a book, which I have come to expect from Jemisin.

Can’t miss the theme. Surreal to read during a pandemic that’s slamming NYC. A must-read, not just for New Yorkers.

I gave this 3/5 not because I didn't like it, but because it just really wasn't my cup of tea. It was a really, really cool concept and I enjoyed the story but it's not for me.

The ending was also a little ehhh for me. A lot of build-up for what felt like a feel-good ending.
