Ok, I love horror, that makes monsters out of subjects that terrify me; such as racism, sexism, gentrification and tackles my own complicity and identity.
I also love the big f*** you given to Lovecraft even though this is definitely lovecraftian.
I loved how diverse it was and how compassionate.
I loved how this was super whacky and weird and oh wow, I'm on board with this.
N.K. Jemisin, thank you for the experience

Got back into TOG. Will read this later
Big fan of NK Jemisin. Wonderful new series unlike anything I’ve ever read.
I remember reading the beginning of this book in the short story collection How Long’Til Black Future Month? When I read it, I thought that I would enjoy learning what happens next in a full novel.
I enjoyed this book so much that I stretched out my reading of this book by reading like 3-5 books lol. I’m not sure how many lol.
This book appears to me, as a non New Yorker, a love letter to the city of New York.
And, it really does, as the book jacket suggests, “ [tell] a revolutionary story of culture, magic and myths...”
I definitely want to eventually buy this book for my personal library. I’ll have to settle for renewing my library loan so I can reread it.
It says this is the first of Great Cities series, and I am looking forward to book two.

A fun read. Not as interesting or complex as The Fifth Season trilogy, but enjoyable nonetheless.
