I wanted to like this book more than I did. It's well-written, some parts made me laugh, and I found it relatable. The author sounds like an interesting person, but that only was apparent sporadically, since the book solely focuses on dating (or not dating, more accurately), which made it seem like that was the only thing she cared about. It took me much longer than it should've to finish reading it, which is usually a sign that something isn't working for me.

This is like, 80-85% of my autobiography and it is freaking awesome. I am both mad that I now have nothing to write about myself and glad that Katie Heaney managed to encompass all of the awkward singleness so clearly and in such good writing. The analogies were spot on and I will forever use the term lighthouse! It changed my life! Seriously, though, I wrote down a quote like every other page because it was all so RELEVANT.

It's like another Katie wrote my diary, but much funnier.

This book wasn’t super great, but what it was was fascinating with flashes of brilliance. Fascinating why? Because reading it for the first time in the wake of the author’s coming out feels like a game of detection with a hearty side helping of I Told You So. (And a small sprinkling of unfortunate recognition.)

I love Katie Heaney's tweets and blog and Reading Between the Texts columns, but this book was not as enjoyable for me. I'm excited to check out her next one.

Katie and I have had very similar lives when it comes to dating - which is why I almost couldn't finish it. I could have told the same stories more or less, but the way she writes them, it's almost as if she wants you to feel sorry for her, instead of laughing with her over the experiences. However, it was the last 3 chapters that I could really relate to (and made me give the 3 star rating).

Oh man this was relatable. It took me a long time to get through, actually; I put it down for like six months when she hit my age at the time, because I didn't want to think about my own life any more and also all the guys seemed fairly terrible and/or boring.

This mostly happened because once I've started a book, I'm too stubborn to not finish it. The writing is mildly entertaining, but it isn't particularly self-aware or thought-provoking. This book is fine if you are stuck in an airport.

I'd give this book a better rating if I didn't feel like she's purposely not dating because it's become a point of pride for her.

The writing itself is engaging, but I don't buy it as a memoir.
