After reading three of his books, I really don't understand wherein Nicholas Sparks' novels lies all the wonder. Thus far, I've learned that once you've read one, you've read them all. It's as if Sparks created a novel template based on sub-mediocrity that caters to the average eighth grade reading level. Compared to his contemporary Southern writers, Sparks' novels are unimaginative, sophomoric in composition & development, and flat. I'm not making the mistake of picking up any more of his books, as my time is far too valuable to be wasted on further stories of a tepid love affair between a confused/conflicted would-be heroine and an overly analytical & sensitive man, set somewhere in a small NC town. Sparks' heroines are demeaning in their lack of depth and introspection to all empowered, independent, modern Southern women.
medium-paced
I thought this one of Sparks's worst books. Plus, it was kinda creepy... being about a stalker and all, and having to deal with a stalker myself, who, thank god, wasn't as bad as the creep in this book. I did, however, like the uplifting areas of the girl getting a dog from her deceased husband to help her move on, and then falling in love with her dead husbands best friend (sounds horrible, but hey, he was a good guy and she found love again). But the stalker aspect to add some drama... really? Was that all he could think of? Meh. Moving on.
Sparks added a mystery twist to his usual romance novel. At times it worked very well and at times it seemed a tad bit forced. Overall, this is a good beach read.

One of my favorites by Nicholas Sparks! It had a very different spin to it than most of his books has had. Really enjoyed it!
