A tale that above all demonstrates the strength of women in a world made against them and how love for your fellow people is the strongest weapon you have.

One of the best books I have ever read. No hyperbole here. Somehow manages to be gritty and whimsical at the same time. The worldbuilding and lore were well thought out despite it being character driven with multiple povs. I loved every second!

The main heroines are all openly flawed or have massive obstacles to overcome. Seeing these women change for the better (but sometimes a little worse!) as the story progressed was an absolute joy. Not to be corny, but I think female empowerment really resonates here. These characters felt incredibly realistic to their unique circumstances. And the last chunk of the story was one of the most satisfying endings I have read in a long time!

A masterpiece standalone fantasy that everyone who loves fantasy and fairy tale retellings needs to read! full stop!!!

This book is so exquisitely crafted, it was an absolute joy to read. There are a lot of POVs interwoven to tell the story and despite all of them being told in first person, I found it (mostly) easy to follow who was speaking just from the writing style. I also loved seeing the representation of different parts of society, including what these people would know or not know simply because of their upbringing. The magic was interesting (though perhaps not explained in enough detail) and the retelling (of Rumpelstilskin) cleverly done.
My favourite part was definitely the moral strength and determination of the three main female characters. They all did the best they could with the situations they were faced with, relying on their intelligence and experience, trying to make the best choices while not betraying themselves or their families. Found family also plays a huge role, as do kindness and empathy. I already know this is a book I will want to reread as soon as some of the details have faded.
My only complaint would be that I would have liked to see a bit more of the love stories, but then this is not a fantasy romance, so it is not the fault of the book at all.

I loved this book, just as much as I loved Uprooted!

Spinning Silver has lots of excellent female main characters, which I always love. I did think the story took a while to get going, and I wasn't really sure where it was headed, but there was a lot of solid wordbuilding along the way. Even when the story did get going, it kept surprising me (in a good way!). I've realised I really enjoy character-driven stories, and this is definitely that!

I was really itching for a fantasy book when I decided to pick this up, and it has absolutely scratched the itch!
