Alison Cochran has managed to craft what I believe is one of the best road trip stories I have ever read! I loved the pacing, the characters, the scene building, the HUMOR!! There is so much I can say about this book.
Let's start with the happy stuff. Besides the fact that the book is hilarious, I loved how Cochrun uses the story to show travel through the southern states of America through a queer lens. Readers can expect to find themselves surprised by the love in the queer communities in different states during the journey.
Another happy-ish thing I liked was the characters. They were all so well-rounded and felt so REAL where I felt connected in a way. Like in Cochrun’s previous book, KISS HER ONCE FOR ME, HERE WE GO AGAIN has really great anxiety and ADHD representation. I also loved having a main character on the ace spectrum.
Now for the sad part.The main premise of the story and reason for the road trip is to get a man dying of cancer to his desired dying location across the country. The experience of witnessing someone deteriorate and eventually die from cancer is a major occurrence throughout the book, so keep this in mind while reading and take care of yourself.

A wonderful summer rom-com!! I loved the characters and the story, this is a perfect story of healthy growth and love. At first i was describing it as a gay tuesdays with morrie, until the amazing character joe said "this aint some tuesdays with morrie bullshit"😂 but it still turned out to be a great road trip story of a teacher helping his students grow while saying goodbye

Okay, I expected to cry (maybe not sob so loudly I scared my cat, but here we are). I expected to be emotionally punched in the face. I *did not* expect to be called out by yet another rom com, but apparently that's what we're doing these days, so cool.
The way this book has consumed my mind for the 24 hours since I finished it, however, was the most unexpected thing about it. I read half the book sitting at a park during the solar eclipse, and then read more before bed, and then finished it when I woke up and I cannot stop thinking about it. Lately the rom coms I've been picking up (and absolutely devouring) haven't been simple love stories, but deep and complex in ways I didn't expect. I don't consider myself to be judgmental (deragatory) about genres (I'm very much one to encourage people NOT to be), but clearly I've been making assumptions if I'm being constantly surprised like this.
Maybe how I read this kind of book has changed, or maybe norms in the genre are changing, but assuming rom coms are going to be light and fluffy probably won't be my default anymore. I'm okay with having to be more conscious of that moving forward if it means getting more like this though. I don't know if I'll ever fully recover from this one - and honestly? I'm okay with that.

This is simply the sweetest, most beautiful, rip your heart to shreds and stitch it back up three sizes bigger book that I’ve ever read. I laughed constantly. I held back tears a few times and then cried so hard I couldn’t see the words anymore. The way this book approaches and opens up grief, death, mental health, love, joy, life, and so much more spoke to me in such a special way. I wanted to wrap every character in the biggest hug and never let go. I don’t even know how best to say how perfect it was, but I can tell you already this is a top book of 2024. And probably of ever.

- You wouldn’t think this book, which you know is going to end in a death, would be so hilarious, but it is. I loved the road trip shenanigans and the bickering and the joy and beauty found in the bleakest of times.
- Then, of course, this book is also filled with thorny questions of how to live your life and what are the most important things in that life. Just a treat, all around.
- I also loved how Logan’s ADHD and Rosemary’s anxiety are not problems to be fixed, but integral parts of who they are. (Not that I expected anything less from Cochrun!)

This was gut wrenching and lovely all at once. A very atypical romance novel, but I think that's what made it extra impactful. The combination of love and death feels like an odd one, but Cochrun pulls it off expertly. Some parts of the dialogue were a bit cringey (using queer icons' names in place of 'oh my god' or some cheesy/cliched lines), but the rest of the story made that easy to move past. It's so many different things and stories rolled into one, and I think it's a really special book that I won't soon forget. Thanks to goodreads for the arc <3
