This pandemic saw the displacement of thousands of migrant labourers in Indian cities. Having lost their jobs and all their money, they were desperate to go back home miles and miles away. They WALKED this distance, carrying their children and their belongings, across the country.

Many of them lost their lives. All the migrant families were harassed in some way or the other.
The problem persists.

It might sound cliché, but I couldn't help drawing parallels with the Indian migrant issue while reading this book.

... only-- the Joads had lost their home and were hoping to settle elsewhere.

I saw two thoughts while reading this: 1. This is one of the best books ever written. 2. Fuck John Steinbeck I hate this book.

Steinbeck is a master. He can convey more in a three sentence paragraph than most people do in an entire chapter. This is a beautiful, gritty story of desperate people in a desperate time.
