A nice short story without the need to know lore from the Magic universe.

So I went on a bit of a Brandon Sanderson streak here. Unfortunately, Children of the Nameless wasn't as good as Elantris. I also expected it to be part of the Cosmere, which it wasn't. It is a story based on the game Magic: The Gathering, which I am not really familiar with. I've heard of it, but only from some of my students. Nonetheless, it was still a good story. The two main characters were good. The ending was a bit confusing, but that could be because I'm not familiar with the world. It was an interesting story, but the thing I liked most were the demons and Davriel. They were hilarious compared to Tacenda and how she was the epic heroine and was super upset and devastated. It was a really funny contrast. So, to sum up, I liked it, but I didn't love it.

A neat novella set in the Magic the Gathering universe. I know next to nothing about the lore, but I am a casual fan of the card game, and I love a good Sanderson tale. There were a few cheesy parts that made me groan, but other than that, fun read. I would definitely suggest it if you're in the mood for a quick read, like Sanderson, like MTG, or a combination of the three. Oh, you need no prior knowledge of the MTG universe to enjoy this story.

Children of the Nameless was an absolute blast! I give this story a resounding 5 stars.
I know less than nothing about Magic the Gathering and it didn't matter in the slightest. It felt like an entirely self contained novella that immediately sucked me in. I didn't know that this book existed until yesterday somehow, so I soon as I saw it I hunted it down and devoured it in one sitting. I didn't know I needed this book, but now that I'm done I wish Brandon would maybe write less Secret Projects and more MTG tie ins.
I thought I had read everything that he had written bit I'm so glad I had this hidden gem left to find.

I have played Magic and seeing Sanderson give life to this world was great. I can see where people wouldn't like this novella but I did and I think it is a great read for anyone wanting to see Sanderson's capabilities. If you liked this check out the Infinity Blade books Sanderson wrote so you can see who he translates to video game concepts.

A great fantasy mystery, engaging from the beginning, and with quite a few interesting twists. The characters were well-fleshed out and banter was entertaining. Many things were unclear by the end, unfortunately, which is my main complaint.

Sanderson's distinctive style definitely made itself noticed, especially towards the end but I've got to say, you can really tell the difference between the high quality editing that goes into his usual books and what this short story received!
