Enjoyable with good character development. Beautiful depiction of family and finding oneself as they heal.

Don't think this was for me. Thought it was a bit boring since nothing really happened and the characters are a bit flat (the MC only really thinks about five things). The romance came out of nowhere for me as well. It sometimes felt like the author was trying really hard to make it feel more literary than it was with fancy metaphors, but it really didn't fit the writing style in my opinion.

The middle of the book was a bit of a drag-on, and the ending was a bit predictable. BUT I did really enjoy reading this book (even if I could predict the ending from a mile away). Lila and Orion have a special place in my heart.

Orion <3. This boy is more complex than I originally thought, and I bawled at his backstory. Flora also unexpectedly stole my heart at the end, which is nice.

Here’s some quotes I loved:

“I’ve grown to find peace and acceptance in not fighting what I can’t control.”

“Thing is, when you put something back together it’s never exactly the same as it was before.”

“So I wanted you to choose a future that’s first and foremost yours alone. Not to belong to me. I want you to belong with me.”

I moved from miami to England so this was the perfect book for me. I enjoyed the characters and the cooking it inspired me to try Cuban recipes here. I didn’t get the reason why she was sent to England. The stakes weren’t so high to be sent across the globe. But I still enjoyed what she found when she got there.
