I was on board with the concept for the majority of the book but Chloe’s obsession seemed so over the top and that she didn’t realise and none of her friends called her out until too late bothered me. Her comeuppance didn’t even feel (good) vindictive and no one’s character development felt earned. Despite that, it has some sweet moments and themes. I liked a lot of the tropes and ideas behind the book.

I listened to this book with Libby. I loved the narrator, Natalie Naudus is one of my favorite narrators. I found this book so funny. I loved Rory and Smith’s characters so much.

I got frustrated with Chloe and Shara a lot. Their enemies to lovers story was heavy on the enemies as they’re academic rivals. I was also really annoyed with Shara for the first 75% of this book. And Chloe, a bit as well, because she ignored Georgia for Shara.

Overall I felt this was a lighthearted read with an air of mystery and romance. I do admire all of Casey McQuiston’s writing and felt they plotted this novel well. All the reveals came at the perfect timing.

I wish I had an alternative graduation, too. hat would have been awesome. I gotta say, Casey McQuiston writes some cool teenagers.

was more invested in the side characters, who felt more well rounded at times, than i was chloe and shara, but it was still enjoyable. didn’t expect it to go in the direction it did (ie chloe and shara actually getting together), but i did call rory and smith from the beginning and think they’re both cute as hell. chloe was kind of annoying at times (same with shara but she was so much worse), but thats essentially the point of her character, since she’s a different version of shara, if shara grew up in a more accepting environment. did appreciate the john green reference though, bc that was all i could think about while reading this. its basically about finding the manic pixie dream girl except sapphic. i wish it did more in terms of the mystery and character arcs bc they felt half baked at times and predictable. though, this book is unapologetically queer, which i did like.

Hell yeah! Queer, Southern fun featuring a delightful cast of diverse characters, a nonstop plot, important struggles, and an adorable romance. What more can I say, except that I flew through — and had an absolute blast?

Wow, I inhaled this book. I needed to know the answer just as much as Chloe (and I’m so pumped I figured stuff out before it was revealed). I started off not liking most of the characters, but they really grew on me as their complex stories unfolded. Because McQuiston really did write a ton of complex, incredibly human characters. I really loved it.
