This author continues to impress. An odd book basically about dealing with grief, but in an almost Phantom Tollbooth kind of way. It starts kind of slow but it gets there eventually. It does have kind of a Death by Newbery kind of feel to it though. It is set in the past for specific reason, but I'm not sure that was strictly necessary. The dog does get named in the end, and something totally appropriate.

The audiobook version if this is VERY well done and the print version has beautiful imagery.

Ok. Full disclosure. I got this book from a pile of free books and thought the premise was so ridiculous that I just had to take it. But then I read it and GUYS I freaking cried. The message is so beautiful and poignant. I should also say that I found myself laughing a lot, too. It has that kind of outrageous comedy to it that I love. It's a charming little book with an important message about grief and coping with heartache in healthy ways. I plan on reading it again and recommend it to all my friends.

Cute, but so woefully wrong scientifically that it's difficult to recommend. I got the analogy and that this wasn't a real black hole but still!
