Overall, I thought this story was kind of choppy because there were a lot of storylines going on. I'm still not 100% sure what the Blackhawk helicopters were doing.

I listened to the audio and I thought the narrator was just ok. I wish they would have picked someone younger because the boys were but he did do a good job with all of the Spanish accent and words. I did like how in the writing if there was anything in Spanish that right after the word the author added in what it was or had a definition for it.

I thought the writing with the parts describing the landscape and the area where his cousin lived was very vivid and I felt like I was there. It sounds hotter than heck down there during the summer!

The ending was predictable. It wasn't my cup of tea but I think boys that are looking for an adventure book or if they have read all the Gary Paulsen books will enjoy this. I read Peak by Roland Smith this summer and I think this would be a great readalike to that. This was my first book I've read by Will Hobbs and will probably recommend him to others but not sure if I will read more of his.

I'm not sure how this made it to the Lone Star list. I was not impressed at all. I've had a couple of students say the same thing.

A great middle school book!

Filled with adventure and suspense, this is a quick read that will really keep reader's attention. I'm looking forward to booktalking it and talking all about the snakes, scorpions, rapids, gunfire, and kidnappers. A really easy sell.

The book is about 2 boy who go on a Rio Grande river trip and meet two people one man, one boy.i will just let it hang from there. I loved this book. The writing was beautiful and I felt as though I was really there. My only stink about it was that it was kind of predicable and(make it two stinks) the book hinted that it was really meant for children, but it wasn't . There were only 2 real conclusions and I think the author could have put some more surprise in there. I do recommend it and this would be a good book for a book club.
The whole story was kind of exhilarating with dangerous rapids, a hurricane, and a kidnapper.I still recommend it.

Only read this for Hunger Games, which is getting pretty silly. Not exactly as enjoyable as it used to be, as the books are too obscure. To be fair though, it is a challenge.
First of all, I can't believe
Spoilerhis uncle didn't pick him up, forcing him to hitchhike in a totally strange place! He's a kid!
That didn't sit right with me. And then
Spoilergoing on the adventure with his cousin and no adult because he went overseas? Riiiight.

At least I'm pleased that
Spoilerhe told his parents the whole crazy truth, and that they watched the interview.

It feels a little pushed and basic. I predicted what would happen as soon as all of the characters were involved.
