Is there ever going to be a reason to risk falling off the building, or is she just going to have to jump?

3.5 stars. It's always up in the air, whether or not new adult romance will work for me. This one, happily, did. Mostly? It's a fairly simple, sweet second-chance romance between a hyper-organised college student who's trying to come to terms with being a lesbian, and her childhood best friend who comes back into her life after eight years. At times it got a little dramatic in ways that bored me, but on the other hand, it was really sweet and genuine, and I love stories about characters coming to terms with their sexuality. There are a few passages in the latter half of this that made me kind of emotional, and tipped the scales firmly in the book's favour, after a sort of lacklustre beginning. I also liked the dynamics of the friend group and all their quirkiness. The writing didn't wow me, but I enjoyed it overall.

I started out listening to the audiobook as read by Meg Kelly, and unfortunately her reading style didn't really work for me. I read the ebook and I'm glad I made the switch; this might have been a DNF otherwise.

Simple, cute, heart-warming.

Just some more sugary, fast track, happy-ending, cute shit that I enjoyed here :]

Favorite bits:

"She’s just… here. She’s just here and she’s alive and this moment, for whatever it’s worth, is happening now."

"I don’t want to be, like, dramatic or unreasonable, but… there’s this thing I feel when I’m around you, and I think I always have, and I don’t feel it with anyone else.”

"She didn’t know until it was too late that life offers more than just milestones."

"She’s not planning anything out, except for the here and now, and Alice is learning how to take
each day as it comes...She doesn’t have any plans, and yet, Alice is the happiest and feels the most secure she’s ever felt. She’s got her friends and she’s in love and she’s sure, for the first
time in her entire life, that everything is going to be okay."
