A cute marriage of convenience book with sweet characters. Only 3.25 stars because of excessive unnecessary drama, annoyingly insecure characters, and not enough spice.

I’ve read this book 5 times, which should tell you a lot! I love this book because it focuses not just on the romance but also the FMC rediscovering herself after a bad breakup and everything that comes along with that include found family and friendships. Life is multifaceted, and so is “In a Jam”.

Noah can border on a little too overprotective in some instances, but I also feel like there is usually a balance of his giving her options while not compromising on her safety. It does tend long, but I don’t find myself wishing it would end faster, just go in knowing it’s a time and page count investment that in my opinion, is totally worth it!

This was my top standalone book of 2023.

CW/TW: absentee parent(s), brief mention of parent death, brief mention of parent chronic illness, mention of incarceration, mention of temporary foster care placement, reference to teenage teasing/bullying (not detailed, not explicit), brief incidence of fat-shaming, living with a neurodivergent child

Shay and Noah are wonderful. I loved how they both were with Gennie. I did like that Shay didn't get lost in her too much. I also loved the found family that she had collected around herself. I enjoyed how grumpy Noah was. I also enjoyed the small revelations that Shay observed about Noah. Everyone needs friends like Shay's to help them through things.

Okay, I liked this one a lot more than I was anticipating! The synopsis didn't necessarily feel like something I'd love, but alas, I did love it! Shay and Noah were destined to be together and I just loved how the second-chance romance trope was executed in this. As a soon-to-be teacher, I loved Shay's teaching perspective and how she tutored Gennie. Speaking of Gennie, what an absolute HOOT! I loved that little girl so much! The steam was also *incredible*! This one was almost a five-star read for me, but it fell short because of Shay's indecisiveness on letting Noah love her... ma'am, he's been in love with you since high school, just let him IN!!! Overall I really loved all the characters and enjoyed the storyline so much! Highly recommend this one :) -- Available on KU!
