i know the context, but no book has ever made me this uncomfortable with its blatant racism and white supremacism. Even if that was excusable due to the circumstances, I don't understand the status of this book as a classic, as it's so slow and boring and repetitive — the narration is basically just a list of "this year I did that and the next year I did that".

Okay listen. I can appreciate what this book has done for literature and what it's trying to say and so on ...
But it's also extremely dull. And repetitive. And therefore annoying. The first 60 pages and the last 40 or so were interesting. The rest was not. And no, I didn't read it wrong, I worked through all the major themes, ideas et cetera. The execution was still just meh.
I already did a whole 90 min presentation on this book, so I don't have the motivation to write a long review. I'm glad that I had a reason to read it and I can appreciate what it has done, but this one was not for me.

Okay, so Crusoe would be in no way a sympathetic or likable character by modern standards (you'd hope anyway). He's an asshole, to put it simply.
Worth reading if you are interested in the development of the novel in English or similar subjects, otherwise, if you can stomach the racism, slavery, misogyny, moralising and sanctimonious philosophising, there are a few good bits.
