Cute how-to guide, but pretty niche.

This is very specifically about working in animation. The story didn’t particularly grip me, since it isn’t my industry. I feel like I’d been seeing this book everywhere which is very confusing since I don’t even follow that many people in animation... either way, there was little struggle, the tone was a little odd, but I liked hearing from multiple animators in the end section. Very impressive that the author works at DISNEY. Which she did not name specifically. The art style is cute but it was pretty text heavy and an interesting, directive how-to guide. Some new LA recommendations from it but not much else.

Don't let the fact you're not someone interested in working in animation turn you off to this one! Such a heartfelt, positive gem of a book. Yes, a lot of it is centered on breaking into the world of animation but a lot of it can be applied to any career (keep trying, save what you can, don't be afraid to take chances).

I would mainly/only suggest to people to relate to the title directly. I was expecting it the autobiographical part to be the main focus, but there was also a substantial amount of information and advice that made it feel geared to a specific person.
The art and colors were great. I feel like I saw a glimpse of what it's like to be in this type of work which was interesting and stressful.

Auuuugh this is the dream life for me. I wish I wasn't such a coward; I would totally love to be a story artist but it just scares me so much. Honestly this was such a fun look at the career that never was for me, but it did hurt my heart a little to read. There's always time I guess, in case I decide I really hate being a librarian I can always go back to art (and actually make my Computer Art degree worth something again)

Stopped this one about half way through because I don't actually plan to move to L.A. to work in animation and she was getting very specific.

This was a pretty cute and informative story that was both parts realistic yet supportive. Since I have no background in illustration or animation, nor am I on an animation career track, a lot of this information just wasn't for me BUT I was still interested in getting a peak behind the scenes of what it is like to work in the industry.

I mean … I don’t think I’m the target audience for this, but it was informative, I guess?
