Pick some random young mutants. Put them in the school. Have them sneak out and encounter random bad guys. Kind of what I don't like in a Marvel book. But in this book it basically works. Probably because the writers seem to care about the characters. And the characters are different as people, not just their powers. The art for Jubilee is a little confused, but since I didn't like the old Jubilee almost anything different is better and this Jubilee is nice to read. Kitty is a little underwritten. And Quentin is annoying like always. But it all just works.

IDK. It's not what you'd call new and exciting. Feels very much like going over old ground with a few new faces.

Also, Kitty looks less Jewish every time I see her these days.

Jubilee AND Quentin Quire? Yes, please.

The X-Men have apparently realized that they really suck at the whole school thing and try something else. The school is also an outreach center and kid aren't just divided up randomly but put into classes based on where they'll likely go in life--to the X-Men as a fighter, off to do diplomacy, or back into the regular world because they have nothing to offer otherwise and that's a very good track to make and put your students on. The X-Men never learn. Kitty is supposed to be a genius. So she goes and divides students up by some random criteria that will decide their lives. Not only did they come up with the incredibly stupid idea of making a losers group, they put Quire in there. Those kids were going to be be in trouble from the beginning. Putting Quire in there just made it certain the trouble would be big.

Jubilee gets stuck with the losers. She's a vampire and a mother and probably not the most accomplished X-Man. Her time with the original Generation X taught her more than her time with Wolverine and the X-Men but was it enough to handle a group of disaffected mutant kids? It was enough for her to know what they'd get up to and go get them. So there's that.

The idea behind the book is fun and worth exploring. The execution is terrible. Seriously, don't put the rejects together and tell them they're rejects. If that'd been handled better, this would be a really good book. But it has two of my favorite characters so 4 stars. And it's cancelled so nothing matters.

Great comic ! Not the usual fighting but a more closer look at the personal struggles the teen mutants face - loved it
