STRONG start with the introduction of Cinderella, loved her character!! She really made this book for me. And the mystery was unexpected (red herring after red herring) but I could still follow the logic in the end. Hastings is more of an active character than just a narrator which I actually really enjoyed, even though his character is a bit annoying. That’s part of his charm I guess lmao

DID NOT FINISH

Don't like detectives much

A classic Christie romp with a continental flair, Murder on the Links sparkles with all the charm you’d expect—Poirot at his most theatrical, Hastings dashing, English, and a little dim, and a cast of devious women including a mother bear, a mysterious Russian, and a Cinderella-type ingenue. The French seaside setting and newly fashionable golf course add a breezy backdrop to a rather bloody affair.

What surprised me most was Hastings’ moment of rebellion—going against Poirot’s judgement for personal reasons. It felt slightly off to see their usual dynamic wobble, though their relationship endures. I loved the playful tone, the twists and red herrings, and especially the way Christie lulls you into thinking the mystery is solved… only to throw in one final reveal. Clever, charming, and satisfying.

I love Agatha Christie, but for me this one was confusing. I still found the writing clever and enjoyable, but some of the people and places overlapped in such a way that I found it difficult to keep track of some details. Perhaps this is just me. The "links" golf course in the story also play very little role in the story.

Also Poirot's voice is not heard very often until the very end where he essentially comes forward to explain everything. I didn't feel he was weaved into the story the way he is in many of the other books. Overall in my opinion this is one of the weaker Poirot novels in the series, though as I said it is still an enjoyable read.

3.5 with the half star purely for Poirot’s hilarious quips
