This epic adventure or love and found family blew my mind and left me a complete emotional wreck. And I would read it all over again in a heartbeat.
The beautifully written words brought such a raw emotional connection to not only the MFC and the MMC but to all of the side characters who band together to form an unbreakable group of friends and found family.
When Selene Amaris finally gets to go home after 10 years, it is not the home she once knew. The journey to get there has been a dangerous one but once she arrives, there is even more to be cautious of.
Callan Edgeborn has spent his life trying to protect those he cares for. The only person to ever navigate the Never Sea and return in one piece, his latest journey has him bringing back cargo he never expected to find. But the journey takes its toll on all that are aboard.
These two characters along with Rio, Esme, Sol, Matthias, Leo and Merrick brought such a well rounded sense of adventure, compassion and unity to this story. This truly is a group of friends that everyone wishes they could have. The kind that have your back no matter what.
The banter between them all was hilarious and brought a sense of happiness to the otherwise doomed existence they all seem to facing.
The passion between Selene and Callan was electric with the added slow burn, tension and build up between these two meaning I literally couldn’t put this down.
And can we talk about that ending please. I cried so hard! My heart still hurts and although for one part we obviously knew it was coming, we didn’t know how of when and OMG when it came, I felt my heart literally rip from my chest. This book is up there as one of my best read of this year. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Hopefully I will have the pieces my heart back together in time after being absolutely shredded to pieces reading this book. I loved it!
Thank you so much to Evelyn Flood and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book. I have truly been blown away.

The Lovely: This book his home on so many front - a beautiful found family, a tension filled relationship between the main characters and a world and story that sucked me in. The world and backstory are complex but explained in a way that was easy to understand. The main characters have a slow developing relationship that is fraught with their own internal struggles. They are so right for each other but will that be enough?
Also Lovely: That ending shook me. You know it’s rough when the author’s first word after the ending is “sorry.” Part of it I saw coming. But not the very, very end. Like, dang, how are they supposed to come back from that? I’m glad book two is expected to come out yet this year.
Recommendation: I knew of this author from her omegaverse romances (which I’ve liked) so when I saw this fantasy romance pop up, I jumped on it. And I’m so glad I did. If you like an emotionally charged fantasy romanced complete with an epic world and beautiful found family, I think you’d like this book.

I genuinely have no words. This has to be the best fantasy book I’ve ever read, and for it being the first in the series? I am GAGGED. Usually I have a love hate relationship with romantasy series’ as I often find all the characters and plot hard to follow at times, however the world building was done so well that this was not an issue. The romance was done beautifully and there was a good mix between romance and fantasy. I am currently crying my eyes out at the airport and I am already counting down the days til December 2025. This series is genuinely going to be something special and I cannot wait to see more of Callan, Selene and the crew.

I devoured this book within a couple of days and I just KNOW I will be rereading at some point. I was completely hooked from the very first chapter. The high fantasy world is so unique, the characters are complex and compelling and the slow burn romance was everything I want in a book. This book has me feeling ALL the feelings, and that ending!!!
Selene is so intriguing as an FMC - her story is heartbreaking as she's the last of her kind, but I love that we get to watch as she starts to heal and finds her own found family. She is fierce, brave and I adore her. And Callan!!! The slightly broody, definitely sexy, captain with lots of secrets? I was sold immediately. The romance is a slow burn, its frustrating and tense - I loved every second.
I have to shout-out some of my favourite side characters - Merrick, Leo, Matthias, Esme honestly the entire inner circle is amazing. I love each and every one of them.
The worldbuilding is so unique and beautifully written - a sea of stars, complicated political games, and people doing everything they can to survive in a harsh world. The magic system was also different to anything I've read!! This is high fantasy at its finest, but it was so much more too. A story of grief, survival, loyalty, family, power, greed and more.
The ending had me crying, staring at my ceiling for a few hours and DM'ing the author to let her know if trade my soul for book 2. This book was a masterpiece, and one of my top reads of this year so far. Go check it out👀

This book is an immersive fantasy with gritty sea merchants and just enough magic to keep you enchanted. The blend of fantasy and nautical adventure gave me Fable meets Grishaverse vibes, while still feeling unique and wholly it's own. I loved how the worldbuilding unfolded naturally through storytelling and dialogue—it felt like I was discovering the setting alongside the heroine, which worked beautifully with the seafaring atmosphere.
Selene and Callan are older protagonists, which I appreciated, though their tone and behavior occasionally leaned more toward a new adult feel. Their romance is a steady slow burn—not overly dramatic or swoony, but believable and earned. What stood out even more to me was the found family and casual queer rep, which gave the story real heart. While I wished for a deeper exploration of Selene’s trauma and a slightly stronger emotional spark between the leads, the emotional payoff and action at the end pulled me right back in. Despite a few slow stretches in the middle, this was a compelling, atmospheric read—and I’m definitely curious to see where the story goes next.

WOW!
I was not expecting this to be SOOOO good!
Stars Above The Never Sea was everything I didn't even know I needed.
The FMC and MMC are incredible - and not 19! They are well-developed characters that I had an instant connection too. Their romance was deep and beautiful.
The plot was so interesting and kept me fully engaged. I loved the incredible world-building, the magic system, and the political dynamics.
The side characters we fantastic and truly enhanced the connection to the story.
The end left me reeeeeling, and I need book 2 now!
Thank you to NetGalley and Evelyn Flood for the ARC

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC copy of this book & the author this book is phenomenal✨
Stars Above the Never Sea is the first installment in a brand-new romantasy series filled with magic, found family, emotional angst, rage and a love that defies the gods them.
Selene is the last Faeyte after her world was ripped away from her, when the air turned to wind and water in a single violent moment, and the sea became an endless inky starlight. Selene swore vengeance once she returned home but by fate she crosses path with Callan and his crew will her path of vengeance now change?
This book ripped my heart out, I sat here sobbing and said I couldn't read anymore, but still continued to read and sob. It broke me so obviously I absolutely LOVED it. THAT ENDING had me throwing my Kindle. I wasn't ready for the book to end. This book was everything and more, it ticked so much for me that I love in a the romantasy.
The story is told in dual POV of the FMC, Selene & MMC Callan. The slow burn, the SLOWWWWWW BURN. The build of romance was agonising but in SUCH a good way. Callan is such a sweetheart he melted my heart. The found family aspect is especially heartwarming, each character brings the story alive.
I felt blindsided, caught me of guard, every time I thought I knew where this was going, NOPE. The world building, the magic the story was just on point. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do waiting till December.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for allowing me an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I didn’t have a bad time with it, I just didn’t have a good time with it.
I appreciated that the characters were mid20s-30s but they acted, spoke, and behaved like teens and YA characters and I found that immensely off putting.
I wasn’t super compelled by the world building or the magic system or even the characters themselves.
I understand this is a debut romantasy but I’ve not got any interest in continuing on with the series unfortunately.
