"Something Blue" is that rare book... You know the one with the obnoxious, instantly unlikeable, shallow, vain and bitchy heroine ..... the very same one you grow to not only like but love?!

Emily Giffin's "Something Blue" is a continuation of "Something Borrowed" and although it can be read alone and apart from the first, I think it would lose some charm and definitely some of the depth from the story.

Simply, I found myself swallowed up in "Something Blue". I read it hungrily and found myself truly satisfied.

Darcy was my least favourite character on [b:Something Borrowed|42156|Something Borrowed (Darcy & Rachel, #1)|Emily Giffin|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1305063535s/42156.jpg|1789440]. And that says a lot, because I didn't like most of the characters.
So to read a book with her as a main character was almost.. unbearable.

This whole book was basically about Darcy playing the victim, manipulating people and being a total bitch. So, the usual. I honestly thought that reading this book would help me understand her better than I did while reading [b:Something Borrowed|42156|Something Borrowed (Darcy & Rachel, #1)|Emily Giffin|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1305063535s/42156.jpg|1789440], but that just didn't happen. She still annoyed the hell out of me and I still felt like bitch-slapping her every two seconds.

On a positive note though, this book was pretty entertaining & fast paced. It brought back some good old memories from when I read the first book a few years ago. I remember reading that one super quickly as well and even though it's not the best book eeeever, I had such a good time reading it.

I liked this book much better than the first one because it's plot was about redemption and character growth rather than cheating and betrayal. There was HOPE in this one.

Great Follow-Up/Sequel

The follow up to Something Borrowed. This story is told form Rachel's perspective, and I actually liked this one! After she, Darcy and Dex blow up each other's worlds in the previous book, she decides she needs to leave everything behind and do some serious soul searching as she prepares for motherhood. She convinces a childhood friend to let her visit him in London, and eventually she gets it together and grows into a character you enjoy. It takes quite a few chapters to get there, but she does. And it becomes a beautiful story of redemption, love, and growth.

So I totally related to Rachel, and was a little less intrigued by this book since it focused more on Darcy. However, I think it showed that as self absorbed as Darcy was in Something Borrowed...she had a lot of redeeming qualities beyond the surface.

DO NOT READ FOR ME ONLY. This one was hard for me to pick up because after reading the first one (a long time ago), you just don't want to care or even know what was in Darcy's head after knowing she cheated and got pregnant with a man's baby that wasn't her husband. But from the point of picking it up, I simply could not put it down until I was forced to. The basic rundown: during her engagement to Dex she gets bored and starts seeing Marcus and then has sex with him that lands her with a baby in her belly. The wedding gets called off and she finds out about Dex and Rachel (from the first book) she cuts them all out of her life and starts over with marcus to find out that he is a pig with no ambition and something of just a lust rather than a life long love. When things don't work out for her and she loses all her friends she decides to leave the city and stay with an old friend Ethan, who is also really close with Rachel. In her time in London, she learns of the selfish conceited little bitch that she really was in New York and starts to change her ways. She starts preparing for the baby better, making friends and trying (but not succeeding) at finding a job. Although dating one guy she begins to fall for Ethan and finally when she is bed ridden till the pregnancy and Ethan offers to keep her at his place instead of the boyfriends is when she realizes she has to break up with him. By the end of the book she has TWINS, falls in love with Ethan and they end up getting married and guess who actually comes to the wedding?! Rachel and Dex. Happy ending once again. But this book really brings you to terms with Darcy and creates this fond compassion for the girl we first hated and its amazing how Giffin could turn it around so easy. At one point I liked Darcy better than Rachel. Felt for her more. Maybe it was just all the wrong turns she had to take before she got it right but the book left you with a smile on your face and a tear in your eye. Definitely a good read.

A story about the journey of a spoiled-brat to self-realisation and the goodness of being "selfless". The book has a somewhat of an "okay" story, however, it has "cliche" written all over.

An interesting twist for a sequel; I didn't find it as well written as "Something borrowed".

Not as strong as the debut novel, Something Borrowed, but still a very good read.

not as great as something borrowed but also a fun beach read. all of these books read very quickly so be prepared to need a new book to pick up within a day or two!
