I had no idea that pregnant women were such a hot commodity in the dating world. Forget match.com, just get yourself knocked up and men will be throwing themselves at you in no time. Generally, when I read chick lit, I have pretty low expectations - at best, it is the literary equivalent of eating a cupcake, at worst, it is like eating sickeningly sweet cotton candy. I really like Something Borrowed, and thought it was a really clever idea to revisit the story from another character's perspective, especially one as unlikable as Darcy Rhone. Reviewers on Amazon promised that I would grow to like Darcy in the end, but unfortunately, this was not the case. The character development/ transformations in this book were somewhat implausible. Would a man like Ethan who divorced his wife because she lied to him about being the father of someone else child be in a state of mind to fall in love with a woman capable of similar tactics in a similar situation? Well, I guess we are supposed to believe that Darcy is a changed woman due to her dire straits and impending motherhood. Unfortunately, the author attempts to make Darcy a more appealing character were predictable and ultimately unsuccessful. Maybe we are not supposed to like her? Something Borrowed was okay, but feel free to skip Something Blue unless you really like cotton candy.
Not quite as good as Something Borrowed, but still a fun read. :)
At the end of Something Borrowed/ beginning of Something Blue I really did hate Dacry. She's the person I never wanted to become: a selfish, self-centered person. I realized that I was her to an extent, and as she deals with her problems and learn how to fix them, I realize that I can do the same. By the end of the book you want Darcy to succeed not because of all the bad things going on in her life, but because if someone like her can get her life in order, you can too.
Easy great read.....good follow up book to Something Borrowed
I really struggled with the main character for the first 10 chapters, but after that I began to question my own assumptions. I also highly recommend it!
