I’ve never read a more unlikable character. Ok wait. Let me clarify. I’ve never read a more unlikable character who was supposed to be somebody with a redemption arc that the reader comes to love.
And I have read, and enjoyed, the shopaholic series where the main character is impulsive and flighty and shows poor judgement, but underneath she’s actually a good person.
Nope sorry, I don’t buy Darcy’s 180. The first 75% of the book displays her selfish, shallow ways, so I don’t understand how we’re supposed to expect her to completely change after an argument, over a few chapters.
This book follows Darcy, recently separated from her fiancé when she finds him cheating with her best friend. (The subject of the first book of this series that I read years ago.) How could they?! As a reader you feel betrayed on her behalf. But oh wait, Darcy wasn’t so innocent and had been having an affair with her fiancé’s best friend. Darcy finds herself pregnant and disillusioned with her new conquest and decides she needs a change of scenery to evaluate her life. So she moves to London, crashing with a high school friend, where she continues to live the same self-centered lifestyle she had lived in NY.
I recommend skipping this one.

I found that I really enjoyed this sequel to Something Borrowed. It was nice to see Darcy's side. I enjoyed the growth that Darcy went through. From a vain shallow creature to a mother who sees more to her life than glamourous parties and liquor. My only complaint: just like Rachel in Something Borrowed, I feel that I couldnt really connect with Darcy. Don't get me wrong, she live a fabulous life that any self absorbed modern woman would want, but there were times when I just couldnt feel for what Darcy was going through. I'm not sure if Emily Giffin did this on purporse or it was an unfortuante accident.
If you're looking for a fun fluffy piece of brain candy then this a good book to read by the pool. If you're looking for something serious and throuht provoking, you'll be sorely disappointed.
On a side note, I'm not happy that Something Borrowed got turned into a feature film. The book was okay. It was fun. But seeing the trailer full of half way decent actors forcing chemisty and comedy is well, it was hard to watch.

3.5 stars, it was pretty predictible, but I did like the changes in Darcy, she finally understood that she's not the center of the universe.
Wow! I loved this book even more than Something Borrowed because Giffin was able to do the unthinkable...she made me love a character, who I utterly disliked at the start of this book (and from the first). She made Darcy so vulnerable, so likable, by the end of the book, I actually cried! Something Blue picks up right where Something Borrowed leaves off. Darcy has just found out about Dex and Rachel and seeks comfort from Marcus. While pregnant with his baby, she forces him into a relationship that he doesn't want and grasps at straws to hold on to him but winds up losing him, her relationship with her parents and even Claire (her new best friend). With no where else to turn, she leaves New York to live in London with her friend Ethan to start her life over again. After Ethan gives her a huge dose of reality, Darcy begins to evaluate her life and begins the healing process and giving her a life a fresh start. Along the way, she and Ethan fall in love and she gives birth to twins. I think Giffin is a new favorite author and I can't wait to read Baby Proof!

I only kept reading this because I read the first book. Darcy drives me insane! (Spoiler: I’m glad Darcy found herself & figured out life.)

reading the first half was unbearable (but still preferable to my alternative, which was writing a term paper); the second half got a little better, though. i usually like intentionally unlikable characters who develop throughout the story but i had mixed feelings here.
Enjoyed this book way more than the first one but it may be because I didn’t know how it would end. Still don’t enjoy Darcy as a character though.
