When I was a little girl, I watched this movie and I LOVED it. So I knew when I saw there was a book, I had to read it and I'm so excited to get the rest of the series!
We follow our main characters who live in an underground city whose generator, the only source of their precious light, is dying. There were instructions on how to get out of the city, years later, but they'd been lost. We follow them along their journey towards light ✨
It's very YA but it's super cute and I love me distopian anything so 🤭 definitely recommend this as a nice, short read 🩷

Okay, I didn't hate it. It had a way of sucking me into their world, but it also over-over-over-explained things to the point of reader frustration. Not a horrible read, but not anything I'm going to reread. I'm not even going to check out the next books in the series. Sorry.

I read this book back in 4th and since then I haven’t stopped thinking about it. And one random day, I saw it at my local goodwill and I just had to read it !
This book is a classic dystopian/mystery. Try divergent but a couple degrees less. Super entertaining and full of action!

Childhood favorite
I still love the premise of this book. I wish it was rewritten for adults hahah

Now that I have to drive to work instead of busing and training, my audiobook consumption is on the rise (since I can only listen to so much coverage of the healthcare debate on NPR without feeling angry and/or despondent). I stuck with CoE even though I did not like the reader. The story was solid, but the reader really distracted me. She made one of the main charaters, Doon, sound like annoyingly nasally, when he should probably come off as heroic-yet-short-tempered instead. I won't be listening to the second book...
This book is my childhood in less than 300 pages. It is so far from current fiction and still manages to feel so fresh. I remember reading it after watching the movie and still enjoying every single word. World building is a 100/100 and characters are relatable in their uncanny situation.
