I'm intrigued by a a lot of the details that didn't get explained in this book -- the unknown area outside of Ember's light, the reason for building Ember in the first place, why Ember wasn't made self-sustaining in the first place -- all those sorts of things that will probably get explained in later books.

This is a pretty decent post-apocalyptic book for young adults. I wish I had books like this at my disposal as a kid.
I wasn’t going to bother with a review, but this ending...
This book wants to be The Giver SO BAD! And it’s not as good. The idea was great, but it steals most of it’s framework from the Giver (twelve year olds are assigned jobs and work for society, the society is crumbling, people at the top of society don’t want it to change, main characters feel a need to escape to change society, baby character who’s a stand-in for Gabe, etc.). The characters were likable enough and flawed, which is good. They weren’t Mary Sues. But they were DUMB! So dumb! Part of the ending seems biologically impossible. There would definitely be some health concerns there.
Solid 3. Enjoyable, but it’s a lesser the Giver with a super obvious Heaven metaphor thrown in and dumber MCs.
