This as an absolutely incredible nonfiction, and I strongly encourage anyone interested in women's rights, and the childbirth experience to pick this up. This anthology is a collection of stories from different celebrity women who have become mothers. They chronicle not only the hardships of childbirth and childrearing in general, but how it is made even more challenging because of the society and world we live in.
I think one of the most noteworthy and utterly enraging facts I learned from this book is that the United States has the highest childbirth mortality rate for mothers in any developed country. How can a country that is so "advanced" allow women to die, AND not pursue any means to help prevent more deaths in the future? Doctors continually gaslight women when they express concerns, and this is made even worse for minority women. Another astounding tidbit of information I discovered was that in contracts (specifically cited in this book for athletes and models) there are clauses that terminate the contract if the woman becomes pregnant. This often means the woman is losing a source of income and access to insurance at a time she needs these things most!
This is such an important and timely read, and I think most people could gain something from reading this!
