Very fascinating to read such a vast collection of birth experiences. I liked this collection's focus on found family - with many stories of birth outside of marriage or the merging of households, etc. I also naturally loved the inclusion of a photo at the ends of most of the stories. I loved seeing the range of reactions to motherhood/pregnancy/birth, and how motherhood fit in these women's lives in conjunction to their careers.

Arrival stories seemed like the perfect book to finish February and head into March with but I just couldn’t make it last another day because every story made me want to read another. It’s a book of love but also a book of strong women. It’s a book of struggle, of prejudice. It’s a book about how women’s healthcare isn’t what it should be in this country and that includes birthing stories. This lovely collection of essays comes largely from famous people, but it comes from women we don’t always hear from and so we get lots of different perspectives. Please be warned that this book touches on some trauma as well as miscarriages and abortion. But I highly recommend it.

These are birth stories. Some are beautiful and some are hard. They're all important. I only wish more of the authors of these essays did their own narration.

Informative and terrifying (but probably only to me).

Serena Williams is the first story in the book and it is very captivating, read that one for sure. Some of the other ones are good but all these women who are getting a kid (that I read, except one doulas story (another good one)) have tremendous means or tremendous health or both and the stories started to blend together in a flowery transcendence of champagne motherhood that I was having a hard time relating to.

You know I love parenting/mothering/birth books, but this was pretty boring. I feel bad saying that.
