SYNOPSIS (SPOILER ALERT):
It’s just another day in the crazy life of Charley Davidson.
Her (maybe) boyfriend (who just happens to be the son of Satan) has moved into her apartment building. Now that he’s her neighbor things are starting to heat up between them even more.
But she’s got more worries than her sexy supernatural man. She has a horde of dead blondes haunting her apartment and she has to figure out how they all died. It looks like she might have another serial killer on her hands.
In the meantime she also has a strange visit from a nurse who appeared to her as a ghost but turns out she isn’t dead!
She also is figuring out who the arsonist is and it’s not looking good. It seems like it might be Reyes’ sister and if that’s the case, he’s not going to be happy when Charley gets her booked for arson.
Then there’s the aftermath of Garrett’s visit to hell. Some strange things happened to him and he’s sharing the details which seem to make her life even more complicated.
And lastly she’s confused when it seems like her beloved asylum, which is home to her friend Rocket and his sister Blue (ghosts) was bought by someone and she’s worried it might get torn down.
Like I said…just another crazy day in the life of the grim reaper.

So. Much. Fun.
I really adore this series. They make me super happy and I laugh so much while reading them. The mysteries are so good, the characters are so fun, and her and Reyes are so utterly cute (and getting even cuter). What’s not to love?!?
My favorite highlights from this one are the Reyes and Charley scenes we get, which is so much more than the past books (finally). It’s been pretty slow burn between them over the last five books but utterly worth it!
I also adored Charley in search of her new GPS voice. We got Darth Vader, KITT from Knight Rider, Yoda, Ozzy Ozbourne, etc. These scenes were so laugh out loud hilarious. I especially loved Ozzy yelling at her for taking wrong turns and Charley loving it so much she would purposely make wrong turns. I laughed so hard during these scenes. My family thought I was a crazy person.
Anyways, overall it’s still a great book and a great series. And I’m finally caught up to where I was before so from here on out it’s new to me. Yay!
P.S. I wonder what’s going on with Duff and Mr. Wong? Would be cool to learn who Mr. Wong is!

ORIGINAL REVIEW (8/17/2013):
ORIGINAL RATING (5 STARS)
Just a few years ago Charley Davidson came onto the Urban Fantasy scene full force and quickly won me over with her wit and humor but overall good-hearted personality. Now, five books into the series I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite series and the series only gets better and better, Fifth Grave Past the Light being my favorite installment from the series so far.
One thing that fans of Charley Davidson have been waiting for is more Reyes. We get little glimpses of him and learn a little bit more about him in each book, but when-oh-when will he finally be on the forefront and finally with Charley?! Well, if you're one reader who's been asking these questions you'll be extremely happy with Fifth Grave. Not only is he in a lot of the book but his and Charley's relationship definitely moves forward in this one and believe me it doesn't decrease the suspense, but only increases the interest in the series.
So with the Reyes situation finally moving forward will the books lose their steam? No, I highly doubt it. This book was all the better for having more Reyes and Charley and let's not forget that Charley is a very strong character in her own right. She doesn't really need Reyes to be interesting, but it certainly adds a lot to the series to have him as her counterpart. There's still a lot of questions and mystery surrounding what her and Reyes being together really means, so the future books will probably be focusing on that.
If you're a fan of Urban Fantasy and haven't checked this series out yet then you're seriously missing out. Not only is it fun and witty, but the mystery is solid and Charley is one of the strongest UF females I've read to date -- being a good mixture of strong and clever with very real vulnerabilities that only make you love her more.
I can't wait for the next installment. I predict that this series will be around for a good long while and I'm looking forward to picking up each and every sequel as fast as my little hands can get them.

Without fail this series makes me literally laugh out loud . I love the characters so much especially Charlie .
Excerpt:
I started to put my phone back in my bag when Ozzy yelled out, his accent so thick, I was only half certain he said, “Where the foock are ya goin’?”
Uncle Bob jumped. I must’ve turned on my GPS.
“You have to tahn the foock around. You’re in the middle of foockin’ nowhere.”
“What the hell is that?” Uncle Bob asked, almost swerving off the road.
“Sorry, it’s Ozzy.” I grabbed my phone and turned down the volume. “He’s so demanding.” I pushed a few buttons to turn off the app, then put the phone to my ear. “Sweet buttermilk pancakes, Ozzy, you have to stop calling me. You’re a married man!” I pretended to hang up, then rolled my eyes. “Rock stars.”
Uncle Bob blinked and stared ahead, not sure what to think, a moment I would cherish forever. Or as long as my ADD allowed me to.
——
I want Ozzy as my maps navigator. Siri can take a hike.
By this point, we know things are going to happen to Charley, so almost nothing surprises me now. Everything is beginning to blend together into a homogenous pot of tomato soup.
I might as well hit this review off with the list of events that took place starting off with (1) Charley trying to figure out if her client’s husband was cheating on her. The guy was a psychotic ass and we didn’t hear from him for awhile after that. She then went to a (2) therapy session with the psychotherapist Gemma recommended. After, she (3) went home to find about a dozen deceased females who all happened to be blondes and in a catatonic/fearful state. Ended up (4) going over to Reyes at some point and on and on the days went by.
Nothing major really happened with the main case Charley worked on; it was the same old except without any accidents or pain. However, the case with the supposedly cheating husband came back to haunt her since he literally crashed into Misery and took Charley to the bridge where he planned on murdering her. Fortunately for him, he only had his neck snapped. He deserved much worse.
Reyes was his usual dapper self and that sticky note at the end...had my jaw dropping. That is, if it could drop.

I think this one was my favourite for the series so far. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
What a great addition to the adventures of Charley Davidson. So many fabulous twists and turns that it was almost impossible to put the book down. The only complaint was that the cliffhanger at the end left me begging for more, and we don't have a release date for sixth grave, yet! Why Mrs. Jones doesn't have more recognition is beyond me! I'm going to die of anticipation by the time the next book comes out!
I really enjoyed this. Just as much as the others.
But there are some things that with each book are getting less & less enjoyable.
The forced comedy & Reyes.
Don't get me wrong I still laughed out loud in parts but others had me rolling my eyes. Its every sentence. I need a break to really enjoy the humor.
Having said that when things get series the comedy stops & you know shit is getting real! And boy did it get real.......poor Charley, how much more can she take!!
Yep I said it. I am not Reyes' biggest fan!
The storyline & mystery was great although there is also a pattern emerging with each book
I am still intrigued as to where this is all eventually going.

Spoiler
I know chapter 3 was smoking hot but the way it started left a bad taste in my mouth. And he has often been like that throughout this series, threatening her, hurting her, forcing himself on her, even though she ends up enjoying it....I don't know it just makes me feel a tad uncomfortableThe storyline & mystery was great although there is also a pattern emerging with each book
Spoiler
generally as a rule the first client in the book will play a big part in her nearly getting her killedI am still intrigued as to where this is all eventually going.
