This is very, very well done. It brought me back to my childhood (I’m a middle aged parent) in many funny ways. It was also able to bring important topics like racism to a book in a very accessible way that will hopefully help kids gain understanding.
Moderate: Bullying and Racism

This was so cute and I loved how the 2 MCs were POC!!!
Based on the author’s life who is Thai American and the racism she faced growing up in small town Texas. Her best friend Megan is half Iranian so she experiences Islamophobia .
Although cheerleading is important to the story I loved seeing the friendship and struggles of middle school and the family dynamics as well as embracing her Thai culture.
She never says it but I think they didn’t get selected for the cheerleading squad was coz they were racist 🤷🏽♀️
The part where teachers couldn’t pronounce her surname and just didn’t bother…relatable!
I liked her art class friends and glad she made some new ones with the cheerleading try outs.
Loved the artwork as well! Always love a good graphic memoir and this one delivered! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
8/10 would recommend and I defo think the students will enjoy this one!
