Not giving a star rating.because I am abandoning at page 75. This feels contrived and inauthentic. The story idea is interesting, but the characters are not real people, they are types, very Psych 101. I don't have time for mediocrity with all the good books out there.

3.5 stars, rounded up. The story of three adult sisters, each struggling with her own scars from a traumatic childhood. They take turns narrating, so the reader pieces together the story of the present, when they're in their 40s, and the past. I liked this one! Deals with tough stuff tenderly and with dignity.
3.5 stars - quite compelling story of a family struggling with loss, hurt and imperfections.
I struggled though this whole book. The story was lackluster and the alternating POV chapters of the three sisters (Althea, Lillian, and Viola) fell flat. They all sounded the same to me, to the point where I had trouble keeping Lillian and Viola apart. I didn’t really connect emotionally with any of these characters & didn’t care about any of them. It was just a slog getting through this. Two stars because it was at least well written. Just dry as dust.
I couldn’t get into this book. There are themes of abuse and neglect and messed up family dynamics but they are just not interesting.
Inconsistent pacing and characterization, but the story itself was propulsive enough that I kept reading. I think this'll be a popular book club selection; there's lots to discuss.
Hmmm. This book made me really sad. Super happy for the queer, POC representation, but overall disappointed by the book. Despite feeling really sad about the ending, I didn’t feel truly connected to any of the characters, and I’m not sure why. I mean, I FELT for them, but it was kind of like watching a movie and not existing alongside them like how you feel when you read a really, really good book. I don’t know. I don’t know what I feel.
