Cool how the first version of this story came out in 2002 and I only just got to it in 2024. That means this was first published on the web around the same time Ragnarok Online and MapleStory were first coming out.
Funny how this book takes place in 2022

On point

Before reading the light novel, I watched the anime first and now I can't decide which I like better. I really enjoyed reading about the relationships that Kirito built with Agil, Klein and of course Asuna. The love between Kirito and Asuna are what I think are legitimate #relationshipgoals that couples, young and old, can aspire for. I can't wait to read the second book and see how different it is compared to the anime and see more of that character development.

I enjoyed my reading experience, and I am satisfied with the time I afforded in reading Sword Art Online, Vol. 1: Aincrad. I found the sci-fi elements and world building intriguing. There were a few things that didn't work for me. I did see the anime [ years ago ] before reading this light novel, which helped me picture the settings. I would recommend Sword Art Online, Vol. 1: Aincrad to other readers who enjoy sci-fi romance with high-stakes.

I've been more interested in reading "Light Novels" after enjoying the recent Evangelion: Anima light novels so I thought I'd give this a try as I have the video game on my Nintendo Switch.

This novel was a fantastic read. Apparently it can be considered LitRPG and I only recently discovered that genre and it has my attention.

The conceit of the book is that thousands of players are trapped in a virtual reality video game by its mad developer and must fight their way through 100 levels to escape the game. The people's bodies are kept alive outside the game and dying in the game will kill them in the real world. Dubious science and logic aside, this was an exhilarating action-packed read. There was a lot of honest emotion and romance in it as well. I really enjoyed it and plan to read some more volumes to see where the story goes!
