I really liked the book. There's a lot going on and if you aren't paying attention, you will get lost, but at the same time, I couldn't put the book down!
2 1/2 stars. This was too confusing for too long. I got frustrated waiting for some answers. I understand building suspense and twists and turns but this was just a little too weird and confusing.
I quite liked Gardner's new series based on Tessa Leoni, but this book didn't make the grade for me.
The story is far-fetched and confusing. It's based on a woman named Nicole Frank who survives a car accident and crawls up a ravine to be rescued, but all she can remember about the crash is finding Vero. We don't know if Vero is Nicole Frank or if she's a child or why Vero likes to fly.
I’m looking for a little girl. I have to save her. Except, most likely, she doesn’t exist.
Sergeant Foster and his team can't find any evidence of a missing child and they become more confused when Nicole's husband, Thomas, shows up claiming that Nicole has a traumatic brain injury that makes her account of things unbelievable. He also seems overly protective of her and insists that the police shouldn't believe anything that Nicole says.
There is obviously something really odd going on with Thomas and Nicole's relationship. We get the impression that she doesn't trust him and that he may actually be abusing her in some way, but Thomas's constant explanations about why Nicole is confused and disoriented make far more sense than Nicole's version of things - a version she can't remember.
Wyatt knows something else is up and his concern for Nicole grows when he discovers this isn't the first accident she's had recently. Will Wyatt be able to uncover the truth about Nicole Frank and what happened on the night of her crash before it's too late?

As I said, hooked on Gardner. Had to pick this one up since I had the next in the series. Still just as enthralling, but slower pacing than Touch & Go for me. Still enough twists to keep me guessing and blowing through 200 pages in a night to finish it.
Another enjoyable book from this author. At times I felt that the pace was not quite as good as previous novels and whole chapters went by without us really finding out anything new. For example, where the police went over everything they already knew. I get that it is a recap but by that point I didn't think a recap was necessary; it just frustrated me as it affected the pace.
What I do love about Lisa Gardner is that she will include a twist in the tale that you had a suspicion about, then she will throw in another one that you completely did not expect. In this way she is able to avoid her plots being described as predictable.

Total brain fluff and perfect for a lazy weekend. Toward the end it descended a little into crazyville (stolen identities! secret child prostitution ring! covered-up murders!) but that was half the fun!
Love the twists but maybe this one wasn’t quite as hard to figure out as earlier ones in these series.
it was really hard to get into, but once i did i could not put it down! an absolute twisty thriller! loved it, and i loved the writing style.
I will start off saying that this is NOT a stand alone book! This story ties in characters from the D. D. Warren series and the Tessa Leoni series. In fact, Lisa Gardner's own website shows this as the 3rd book in the Tessa Leoni series. Generally, I don't request books that are in the middle of series that I have not been reading already.
That all being said, I am glad I received this book because it made me go read the D. D. Warren and Tessa Leoni series before I could pick up this one. And this might be the best one to date! A woman in an accident, or is it, whose memory is messed up, or is it, and her loving husband, or is he, must deal with the aftermath of horrible events from decades ago. I love how Gardner let's you think you have figured something out, slow and steady, but then comes back and turns your "discovery" on its head! This book was full of twists, crazy crazy twists that will keep you turning pages until it is way past your bedtime!
I received this book from Penguin's First to Read program for an honest and objective review.
